I LOVE MY PROFESSION

I have always been a dreamer.

Professionally I am a Neurosurgeon. To be a doctor was one of my most beautiful dream. Currently, I work in National Institute of Neurological and Allied Sciences. I love my profession, as its so gratifying.

As per Bhagavad Gita, working culture has lead to development of 4 catagories. Doctor is the responsible profession in which he/she plays all these roles. He/she is Brahamin to aspire education, kshetria to fight against diseases, vaisnav to earn living and sudra to serve the patients.

Doctor-patient relationship is the purest relation in true sense. Patient trusts the doctors so much, not only because, doctors are the best option for treating their problems and healing them but they know doctor have dedicated their entire life for helping others, unrelentlessly.

For every patient to choose a doctor is a most difficult issue. They are completely unaware about the expertises, experiences and skills of doctor to their disease and still they devote themself with a belief to be healed. This trust of every patients must be vowed by every doctors and should make all efforts to meet their expectations with all his/her knowledge, skills and dedication and at times must be brave enough to accept his weakness and incompetency and seek help or guide them to the better healing.

Doctor should be able to silence his ego so that his power can rise. There is a very well saying " The good doctor treat the diseases, the great doctor treat the patient who has a diseases."

Doctor should love and respect their patients. Every patient is a teacher to a doctor, Doctor learns new lesson as he/she learn new things while caring patient, not only about diseases, but also of life and values.

I always believe, being on the state of patients, one can feel the agony and pain of diseases suffered by patients and standing on foot of their families, one can understand the stories behind those patients. I consider knowing them is the Integral part of understanding the patient and diseases in true sense.  

Explorations of theses aspects are also the duty of a doctor and should be respected, loved and cherished by a doctor. I believe, have done justice to Hippocrates oaths and also believe, I have done my best to patients, their families and my profession, which I pride of.
